The Hurricane Police Department has fifteen sworn members with more than one hundred and sixty-five years of combined service to the City. The department also has two civilian employees who are responsible for the administrative management of the department and the City Court.

 

Chief of Police W.M. (Mike) Mullins, has worked as an Officer for the City of Hurricane since 1992 and was appointed as Chief of Police in 2007.

The Detective Division is made up of two sworn officers. The division’s primary function is to provide support to the department by following up on investigations and complaints initially answered by uniformed officers, as needed. The unit is led by Captain S.J. (Joe) Sisk who is a uniformed detective. Captain Sisk has been with the department since 1984. Corporal D.R. Campbell also is assigned to the detective unit.

The department’s K-9 Division is staffed by officer Corporal T.J. Dillon. The department’s K-9 division has proven to be a valuable asset to the department’s daily operations. The division consists of two patrol dogs, one explosives detection dog, and two narcotics detection dogs. Their services include criminal apprehension, building searches, area searches, evidence detection, narcotics detection, tracking missing persons, tracking fleeing suspects, crowd control and for protecting the lives of their handlers and other law enforcement counter parts.

 

The Police Department has one officer assigned to the Prevention Resource Officer (PRO) program. The PRO program places a certified police officer in the school system. The program consists of three main components: prevention, mentoring and safety. Officer J.M. Kerr is assigned to work in all the schools within the Hurricane City Limits.
