The City of Hurricane has an established Building Department and Code
Enforcement Office. Article 1705 of the City Code provides the intent
to promote the general health, welfare and safety of the community
by providing building construction guidelines to comply with the West
Virginia State Fire Commission, encouraging the utilization of appropriate
construction practices to minimize flood damage in the future and
minimizing danger to public health by protecting water supply and
natural drainage.
Building permits are required of any person, partnership, business or corporation that may undertake the construction, reconstruction, enlargement, alteration, relocatiion or demolition of any building or structure, including electrical or mechanical upgrading.
Inspections will be performed and certificates of occupancy will be issued in the case of new construction.
